Portmeirion Pottery

Portmeirion Pottery

Portmeirion was founded in 1960 by the legendary pottery designer Susan Williams-Ellis and her husband Euan Cooper-Willis. Susan sadly passed away in November 2007 but her philosophy of creating collections that are not only beautiful but also functional and affordable lives on at Portmeirion.

Always at the forefront of contemporary design, Susan Williams-Ellis was renowned for her originality in both design and manufacturing techniques. This has led to her enviable reputation for producing striking shape and pattern designs that were trend setting and had worldwide appeal – designs that are now seen as iconic.

Recognising the expertise of the area, the earthenware continues to be made at Portmeirion’s factory in Stoke-on-Trent U.K. and has amassed a worldwide following and an ardent fan base.

Botanic Garden

The 1970's saw the birth of what is considered by many to be Portmeirion’s most recognised design, Botanic Garden. Launched in 1972, Botanic Garden was uniquely different - inspired by a serendipitous find of antique botanical books, and with a variety of individual floral decorations. A true British classic, Botanic Garden was designed by the celebrated designer Susan Williams-Ellis. Botanic Garden's delightful mixture of herbal motifs set a new trend for casual dining in the 1970s and today Botanic Garden looks as fresh and exciting as it was when it was launched in 1972. Botanic Garden encapsulates the new mood for casual dining, dispensing with the old formalities and bringing a new design philosophy to the market place. It has become an instant success and has become a classic of British design and hailed as the world's most popular casual tableware design. In Botanic Garden’s first year, 32 motifs were introduced and in its lifetime over 70 motifs have adorned a variety of tableware, cookware and gifts. In fact, 35 motifs were in production in 2009 all oven-proof , dishwasher safe , freezer and microwave safe.

Sophie Conran

The Sophie Conran for Portmeirion collection is a stunning and award-winning collection of oven-to-tableware and home accessories. Natural synergy and form breathe through the collection with each piece having the sense of being handmade with curved edges and rippled bodies that demand to be picked up and felt. Multi-functionality is central to the oven-to-tableware collection with each and every piece being as beautiful on the table as it is practical in the kitchen. Withstanding the rigors of modern life, the porcelain moves effortlessly from the freezer to the oven to the tabletop – mixing bowls become salad bowls, measuring jugs morph into serving pieces whilst the roasting dishes can take centre stage on the table.
